Last week: Democrat Gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum wants to end the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program (vouchers) which assists more than 100,000 students. The program is the only way many low-income families are able to have their children escape under-performing schools. Two years ago, over 100 Black ministers from throughout Florida went to Tallahassee to express support for the program. And, an overwhelming majority of Blacks approve of parents using taxpayer-funded vouchers to send their children to private schools. The question for Gillum: why is he on the other side and wants to end a program that helps disadvantaged families?
