Last week: The death of Colin Powell was a tremendous loss to the United States and the world. He was a Black American who praised his country, its values and its benefits to Black Americans and their history of sacrifice and accomplishment. In a 1994 commencement address at Howard University, he said, “fight racism,” calling it a “disease,” and urged graduates to “never lose faith in America … it remains the last best hope of Earth” and to be proud of their history. Critical race theory proponents and the radical left would consider him an outcast in today’s woke “cancel culture” America for such comments.
